Thimphu, like other Northern regions of Bhutan, received bountiful snow on 18 December 2018. It was so auspicious to experience such a day. Only the day before, on 17 December 2018, we celebrated our 111th National Day in Samtse graced by His Majesty the King, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Royal Highness the Gyalsey, His Holiness the 70th Je Khenpo, Their Majesties the Queenmothers and other national and international dignitaries.
I wasn’t able to get out for any photography whole day on the 18th as it snowed nonstop. I eagerly waited for the next day. On 19th, I almost overslept and missed this stunning scenery around Thimphu. I was just on time to get to the spot. I had many sites to shoot in my mind. But I settled on one of my favorite spots. Running to many photography spots around the valley would have deprived me of this picture which features first rays of the morning sun hitting golden pinnacles of Tashichhodzong, the capital fortress of Bhutan.
It was freezing with white sheets waiting for the sun to give a way. As soon as rays hit the valley, it filled up with rising mists and clouds. That formed another depth for my photography.
This gigantic historic monument gives me every reason to capture in my frames no matter what season or what time of the day is. I will share more pictures from different spots, of different season and of different dynamic range!
